I was asked to locate parts for a 1947 Sunbeam S7, my curiosity got the better of me and I just had to see the bike. We made our way a few hundred kilometers out of Cape Town to a tiny little dorp called Nieuwoudtville. It's literally one of those places that if you blink while driving past you will miss it.

To my surprise and absolute delight I found one of the biggest private collections of classic motorbikes and cars I had ever seen. And amongst the collection was the Sunbeam, which is really not missing that many parts (see picture).

A Classic 1947 Sunbeam S7 in Nieuwoudtville

The bike was allegedly part of a shipment of 25 S7s that were shipped here in 1947 for a visit of King George 5th. Apparently all 25 Sunbeam's were returned to the UK due to vibration problems and ultimately only two were ever sent back to South Africa after the factory had resolved the problem, and this is one of those two. A beautiful classic bike, all it needs is a little TLC, and it will be as good as new.

My dad had one of these. I grew up with this machine at home. It was immaculate. Durban South Africa
